The Timothée Chalamet-starring film “A Complete Unknown” from Searchlight Pictures holds at No. 8 at 2,010 locations with a $3.1 million weekend box office gross. James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic has amassed a cumulative $62.9 million in its fifth week, riding the wave of eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Leading Actor for Chalamet.
Chalamet also made headlines last night as both host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live”. Brady Corbet’s sleeper hit “The Brutalist” from A24 rounded out the top ten with a $2.87 million weekend after expanding to 1,118 screens. The much-nominated epic starring Adrien Brody, fresh off 10 Oscar nominations, has a cumulative total of $9.33 million.
It earned $566,000 from Imax screens in North America, bringing its large format cumulative total to $1.5 million. The film tells the story of a Jewish Hungarian architect who flees to Philadelphia during World War II. Its screenings, which include an intermission, push the runtime to four hours.
A24 has successfully turned “The Brutalist” into a must-see event. The Oscar-nominated documentary “Soundtrack To A Coup D’Etat” from Kino Lorber saw $11,600 on 7 screens this weekend, bringing its cumulative gross to $245,000.

Directed by Johan Grimonprez, the real-life political thriller about jazz, espionage, and colonialism in Cold War-era Congo remains a top contender in the documentary genre during a challenging market. Another new release, Steven Soderbergh’s horror film from Neon, opened to $3.4 million on 1,750 screens. Moviegoers Entertainment is looking at $431,500 from 370 locations for their new release. The Hindi film directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, starring Akshay Kumar, inspired by true events surrounding one of the deadliest air strikes between India and Pakistan, opened to solid numbers. GKids’ release of Naoko Yamada’s animated film opened to $378,000 on 570 screens, marking the director’s highest domestic opening and surpassing the initial runs of “Liz And The Bluebird” (2018) and “A Silent Voice” (2016).
In its fifth weekend, Focus Features’ heavyweight directed by Robert Eggers grossed over $2 million from 1,973 theaters, bringing its total to $93.2 million. Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here” from Sony Pictures Classics saw $240,000 on just 17 screens, expanding from five last week, for a cumulative gross of $434,300. The Nicole Kidman-starring film achieved $891,600 this weekend on 777 screens, adding to a cumulative total of $27 million.
The Oscar-nominated film by RaMell Ross from Orion Pictures/Amazon MGM Studios grossed $340,000 in an expansion to 540 screens in its seventh week, now totaling $1.5 million. Mike Leigh’s latest from Bleecker Street grossed $166,000 in its third weekend at 542 locations, with Marianne Jean-Baptiste starring, reaching a cumulative total of $619,600. Lastly, Roadside Attractions’ film featuring Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis surpassed the $4 million mark with an estimated 3-day gross of $360,800 on 390 screens.
