Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Pasadena Convention Center in California on Friday to support wildfire relief efforts. They served food, delivered supplies, and met with people affected by the Eaton Fire, one of three wildfires ravaging the L.A. area. During their visit, Prince Harry noticed an elderly man who requested a doughnut.

Although none were available at the center, Harry promised to find one. He returned 10 minutes later with a doughnut, bringing a moment of joy to the man’s day. The royal couple spent time at the emergency evacuation center, engaging with people and thanking first responders, including L.A. County firefighters.

They also worked alongside World Central Kitchen, a partner of their Archewell Foundation, to provide support. Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo praised Harry and Meghan for their efforts, stating, “It’s very important. They really buoyed the spirits of the first responders.” The couple’s involvement included monetary donations through their foundation and plans for continued support in the recovery and rebuilding mission.

However, actress Justine Bateman criticized the couple on social media platform X, accusing them of being “ambulance chasers” and using the relief efforts for a “photo op.” She wrote, “What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved.

Harry and Meghan support wildfire recovery

They are ‘touring the damage’?

Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”

Sources say the Duke and Duchess of Sussex found these comments deeply “offensive.” Meghan, who grew up in LA, was reportedly “heartbroken” by the criticism.

An insider shared, “It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity. Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles so this is, and always will be, home to her.”

The couple, who live in Montecito near Santa Barbara, about 90 miles from Los Angeles, have made significant financial contributions through their Archewell Foundation and remain committed to supporting ongoing recovery efforts. They also plan to make additional visits in the future.

In light of the wildfires, Meghan decided to delay the premiere of her new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” from January 15 to March 4. She expressed gratitude for Netflix’s understanding and support, stating, “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”

The Eaton Fire continues to pose significant threats, with Cal Fire reporting that it is only 33% contained as of January 13. The couple remains committed to aiding the recovery efforts in Southern California, demonstrating their support through personal involvement and charitable actions.
