Actress Aubrey Plaza’s husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died by suicide last Friday at their home in California. He was 47 years old. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released Baena’s cause of death.

Baena directed films such as Life After Beth, The Little Hours, and Horse Girl. He also co-wrote the screenplay for I Heart Huckabees.

Plaza and Baena married in 2020 after dating for a decade. In 2021, Plaza shared that they had a spontaneous wedding during the COVID-19 lockdown using a “one-hour marriage” website. Tributes and condolences have poured in for Plaza following the news of Baena’s death.

At the Golden Globes, the Best Director award recipient expressed condolences to Plaza and Baena’s family. Actress Brie Larson wrote on Instagram, “Rest in peace, my friend.” Another frequent collaborator of Baena’s shared a photo with a broken-heart emoji.

Adam Pally also expressed sorrow in an Instagram story, mentioning Baena’s impact on those who worked with him. Other celebrities and friends have left supportive comments for Plaza on social media. Selma Blair wrote, “No words can touch this painful time.

Only love, strength, and support from everyone are needed. I am so sorry.”
