ABC has renewed the popular sitcom “Abbott Elementary” for a fifth season. The show, created by and starring Quinta Brunson, follows the lives of teachers at an underfunded Philadelphia elementary school. Season 4 of “Abbott Elementary” is currently airing on Wednesdays on ABC and is also available for streaming the next day on Hulu.
The show recently achieved a viewership peak of 8.05 million people during a winter premiere crossover episode with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The series stars Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard. “Abbott Elementary” has won four Emmys, including acting awards for Brunson and Ralph.

The show follows in the mockumentary tradition of “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Modern Family.”
The next episode, titled “Strike,” will explore the impact of a city bus strike on student attendance and the teachers’ efforts to adapt to hybrid learning. It will also feature a budding friendship between Gregory and O’Shon.
Brunson executive produces the series alongside Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein. “Abbott Elementary” is produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, both part of Disney Television Studios.
The renewal of “Abbott Elementary” for a fifth season affirms its popularity and relevance as a beloved addition to ABC’s programming lineup. It is the first ABC series to be picked up for the 2025-26 TV season.
